Convention Report by TakagiNaoSama
Tekkoshocon 2006 was quite different for DCM.
Those of you who were there last year may remember our small booth,
photo corner and cosplay DVD sales. Well, this year we had a much more
impressive photo setup, multiple cosplay DVDs, beautiful photo prints
for sale, video gaming, music, photoshoots, a couple more members, lots
of helpers, and even our new "official costumer!" It was a very
successful weekend and we couldn't have done it without you!! Thanks for
making it so much fun!
The rest of Tekko thrived as expected. The game room and dealer's room
each got bigger than last year which gave fans a lot more room to DDR
and ParaPara as well as unload their wallets and reload with cool anime
merchandise. Greggo brought his unique flavor to the con again with his
game shows which never cease to be more than amazing, and I can only
hope he comes back next year.. The Saturday night dance was moved to
main events which gave ravers all the room they needed to dance and
twirl those glowsticks until...1:45 am. Hopefully the ExpoMart will
allow us to stay up until we actually want to next year.
As one of the biggest fans of cosplay masquerades out there, I regret to
report that the Tekko '06 cosplay contest was nothing short of a
disappointment. I'm not saying all the skits were bad, but most were
nothing fantastic (we were especially glad to see the Soul Calibur girls
win Best in Show, and Breetai ruled the stage at 6'8") It's the simple
lack of participation that hurt this cosplay, however. When I slipped
backstage before the show and heard there were only seven skits you
could probably _see_ the giant question mark above my head. Seven???
Tekko ONE had more skits! What happened?? Now I'm not going to blame the
other con for stealing a bunch of Tekko's cosplayers...aww hell, yes I
am. Damn you AP. But Tekko had Greggo, Piano Squall, FansView and DCM,
so why they would go somewhere else, I will never know :P
